This document presents a start up tutorial to guide new Ximdex users to exploit Ximdex 3.0 XML editor: xEdit.

xEdit has a set of actions to operate with the document elements, the whole document or the editor itself. The allowed elements in a document are defined by the used template.

1. ACTIONS FOR ELEMENTS

1.1 Updating an element

  1. Select the element to update by clicking it.
  2. In case of text elements, type the new content (where pointer is located, or replacing a selected text)
  3. In case of multimedia elements, re-size an image dragging one of its corners (using design view). It also can be re-sized using the text fields which are available in the element properties/attributes (editor right area). An image can be also replaced by other image using its attributes.

1.2 Cutting an element

  1. Select the element to cut by clicking it.
  2. Select one of these procedures:
    • Rightclick the selected element, and select the "Cut <element>" ("Cortar <elemento>") action, which is available in the expanded menu.
    • Select the cut icon Cut, located in the top toolbar.

1.3 Copying an element

  1. Select the element to copy by clicking it.
  2. Select one of these procedures:
    • Rightclick the selected element, and select the "Copy <element>" ("Copiar <elemento>") action, which is available in the expanded menu.
    • Select the copy icon Copy, located in the top toolbar.

1.4 Pasting an element

  1. A previous copy or cut element action is assumed.
  2. Select the element destiny by clicking it.
  3. Select one of these procedures:
    • Rightclick the selected destiny, and select the "Paste <element>" ("Pegar <elemento>") action, which is available in the expanded menu.
    • Select the paste icon Paste, located in the top toolbar.

1.5 Moving up an element

  1. Select the element to move up by clicking it.
  2. Select the move up ("Subir") icon Move up, located in the top toolbar.

1.6 Moving down an element

  1. Select the element to move down by clicking it.
  2. Select the move down ("Bajar") icon Move down, located in the top toolbar.

1.7 Deleting an element

  1. Select the element to delete by clicking it.
  2. Select one of these procedures:
    • Rightclick the element to delete, and select the "Delete <element>" ("Borrar <elemento>") action, which is available in the expanded menu.
    • Select the "delete" ("Borrar elemento seleccionado") icon Delete, located in the top toolbar.

2. ACTIONS FOR WHOLE DOCUMENT

2.1 Adding an element

  1. Select the new element destiny by clicking it (the new element will be placed under the selected one).
  2. Select one of these procedures:
    • Rightclick the chosen element, and select the "Insert <element>" ("Insertar <elemento>") action, which is available in the expanded menu. The available element list will vary according to the RNG template.
    • Select an element from the "Available elements" ("Elementos disponibles") toolbar located on the right area. The available element list will vary according to the RNG template.

2.2 XimLET manager

  1. Click the element container where the ximLET will be added.
  2. Select the "XimLET manager" ("Manejador de ximLETs") icon XimLET manager, which is available in the top toolbar.
  3. Select the ximLET idiomatic version to add from the shown filtered tree, and click "Add ximLET" ("Añadir ximLET") button.

2.3 Table manager

The table manager will be available in Ximdex 3.1

2.4 Saving changes

  1. Click the "Save" ("Salvar") action Save, which is available in the top toolbar.

2.5 Tree mode preview

  1. Click the "Tree view" icon Tree view, which is available in the top toolbar.

2.6 Design mode preview

  1. Click the "Design view" icon Design view, which is available in the top toolbar.

2.7 Remote view preview

  1. Click the "Remote view" icon Remote view, which is available in the top toolbar.

2.8 Validating RNG schema

  1. Click the "Validate RNG" ("Validar esquema") action Validate RNG schema, which is available for expert users in the top toolbar.

2.9 Undoing

  1. A previous change in the document is assumed.
  2. Click the "Undo" ("Deshacer") icon Undo, which is available in the top toolbar.

2.10 Redoing

  1. A previous "undo" action is assumed.
  2. Click the "Redo" ("Rehacer") icon Redo, which is available in the top toolbar.

2.11 Checking spelling

  1. Select the "Check spelling" ("Comprobar ortografía") action Check spelling, wich is available in the top toolbar.
  2. Click in an element with an emphasized word (by a yellow box with a red border), and then rightclick the emphasized word.
  3. The selected word can be replaced by a suggested one by means of the "Replaced <word_not_found> by <suggested_word>" ("Sustituir <palabra_no_encontrada> por <palabra_sugerida>") action, which is available in the expanded menu.

2.12 Annotating external references

Note: ximRA module needed.

  1. Expand the "External references" ("Referencias externas") area located in the right side, by means of double-clicking.
  2. Click the "Load" ("Cargar") button Cargar, which is avaiable in the just expanded area.
  3. Select the "Add" ("Añadir") button Annotate to annotate the document with the external references (in the case of images, click the image).
  4. Select the "Visit" ("Visitar") button Visit to visit the provided link in a new window/tab.

2.13 Publishing a document

  1. Select the "Publish" ("Publicar") icon Publish, which is available in the top toolbar.

2.14 Previewing

  1. Select the "Preview" ("Previsualizar") icon Preview, which is available in the top toolbar.

2.15 Opening in a new window/tab

  1. Select the "Open in a new tab" ("Abrir en una nueva pestaña") icon Open in a new tab, which is available in the top toolbar.

2.16 Dragging elements

  1. Select the element to drag by clicking it.
  2. Click the cloud that appears just to the left of the selected element -and indicates its kind- keeping it pressed.
  3. Drag the element to other location, and then release it.
  • Note: Corresponding to the RNG template, the system will show the allowed destiny with a green broken line border.

2.17 Change history

  1. Several changes previously carried out are assumed.
  2. Expand the "Change history" ("Historial de cambios") area located in the right side, by means of double-clicking.
  3. Click the desired history input.

3. ACTIONS FOR EDITOR

3.1 Expanding lateral toolbars

  1. Double-click the lateral toolbar name located in the tab right side.

3.2 Undocking lateral toolbars

  1. Click the lateral toolbar and drag it to a different location in the working area/tab.

3.3 Hidding the lateral toolbar area

  1. Visible lateral toolbar area assumed.
  2. Click the top horizontal bar, located just over the lateral toolbar area

  1. Hidden lateral toolbar area assumed.
  2. Click the vertical bar, placed on the right of the lateral toolbar area Show lateral toolbar area
